Fabio Coentrao has passed a medical at Sporting Lisbon ahead of completing a season-long loan deal with the Portuguese giants, say reports.
According to Marca, a one-year loan deal for the defender has been agreed between the two clubs while Diario AS report Los Blancos will pay 90% of the 29-year-old’s wages.
Coentrao moved to the Bernabeu in a €30m deal from Sporting’s Lisbon rivals Benfica back in 2011 while Madrid president Florentino Perez admitted a deal was imminent.
"Yes, it looks Coentrao will go to Sporting. The important thing is for him to play." Perez told Onda Cero on Monday.
"That (club paying majority of wages) happens many times and has happened with many different players."
Capped 51 times by Portugal, Coentrao appeared against Sporting for Los Blancos in their Champions League clash in Portugal last season.
The defender is set to join Jeremy Mathieu at Estadio Jose Alvalade, with the Barcelona defender reported to be arriving on a free transfer this week.
