Barcelona have reportedly opened formal talks with Paris Saint-Germain over the possibility of signing midfielder Marco Verratti.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, a member of Barca’s board called PSG sporting director Antero Henrique on Friday to discuss what it would take for Verratti to move to Camp Nou.
However, Henrique was quoted as biting back in the telephone conversation: “He can do all the photos he wants, but on July 4 he’ll be meeting up with PSG because President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has decided that he won’t be sold.”
The photo quip was a reference to the Italian posing with a copy of Mundo Deportivo, which headlined with ‘a meeting for Verratti’.
Nonetheless, Gazzetta notes Barca “have the desire to make Verratti the heir to Andres Iniesta or make him central to their new cycle.”
