33-year-old forward Sergio Garcia has completed his return to Espanyol after two years of playing in Qatar, the club have confirmed.
Reports in El Mundo Deportivo and Diario Sport suggested the Barcelona-native had signed a one-year deal with the Catalans with the option for another and verification of emails have been provided, before the club tweeted confirmation of the news on Friday morning.
The presentation will be made at the beginning of July after Garcia initially left the RCDE Stadium in June 2015 after five seasons in which he appeared in 138 games and scoring 41 goals for Los Periquitos.
Various reports in January suggested Espanyol and Garcia were keen to agree a return the club ‘on a reserve team wage’ but the deal eventually fell through due to financial reasons.
The former Betis forward scored 27 league goals across his two seasons for Qatari club Al Rayyan.
