Barcelona have completed the permanent signing of defender Marlon from Fluminense following a successful loan spell, it has been confirmed.
The 21-year-old defender, who signed a one-year loan deal last summer with an option to buy, has signed a contract until 2020 at the Camp Nou and will form part of the first-team squad.
Whilst the value of the deal is said to be €6m in the Spanish press, it is likely the club paid only €2m due to the club playing the Brazilians €4m for first-options on Gerson and Kenedy – which were not taken up.
Marlon started the last two league games of the season against Las Palmas and Eibar due to an injury crisis, while he came on in the Champions League tie against Celtic, but was largely involved with Barca’s B side this campaign.
He is likely to be more heavily involved in the squad’s first team plans next season.
