Highly-rated midfielder Roberto Gonzalez has signed a new contract at Real Betis amid interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.
The 16-year-old is one of the highest-rated youth prospects in Spain and had visited United’s training ground at Carrington, but he has been persuaded to stay at the Seville-based club.
The playmaker was reported by Marca to have had a very persuasive offer from the Red Devils, including paying his compensation fee and organise the relocation of one of his parents.
Newly-appointed Betis Vice-President Lorenzo Serra Ferrer worked hard on a deal to convince Gonzalez – who netted 36 goals in 21 appearances for the Under 18 side this campaign – to remain, although the club have not stated when the deal will expire.
