Eibar are pessimistic over retaining highly-rated defender Florian Lejeune who has made ‘strong steps’ towards signing for Newcastle.
Various reports in Spain suggest the Magpies – newly promoted to England’s top flight – are closing in on a €10m deal for the 26-year-old defender which has seemingly been verified by Eibar sporting director Fran Garaganza.
“I’m not very optimistic, I see it difficult for Lejeune to stay,” Garagarza is quoted as saying by Marca.
“We are worried that Newcastle are taking very strong steps.”
The French defender, who previously enjoyed a stint at Villarreal joined the Basque club from Girona in 2016.
