Sporting director Miguel Torrecilla (pictured, left) has left Real Betis after just one year at the club to join recently-relegated Sporting Gijon, it has been confirmed.
Los Verdiblancos have recently changed the structure at the top of the club with Lorenzo Serra Ferrer returning as vice president earlier this month and he looks set to have a major role in future transfers.
Torrecilla replaced Eduardo Macia at the Seville-based club after six successful seasons at Celta Vigo, but has faced criticism for his role in the hiring of Gus Poyet and Victor Sanchez del Amo – both dismissed last season.
His recruitment policy has also been the subject of scrutiny, bringing in twelve players to the club with many regarded as flops.
Quique Setien was recently appointed Coach at Betis and it is reported this decision was taken by Serra Ferrer with Torrecilla’s role sidelined, and it has been confirmed he will now join the Asturian club.
