Real Betis have sacked Coach Victor Sanchez del Amo and replaced him with former captain Alexis Trujillo for the final two games of the season.
Former Deportivo and Olympiakos boss Sanchez was sacked following Monday’s 4-0 hammering by Leganes – his side’s third consecutive loss and a sixth defeat in the last eight matches, a run which has left Los Verdiblancos 15th in the standings.
ABC de Sevilla state that out-of-contract Las Palmas Coach Quique Setien is the favourite to take over at Estadio Benito Villamarin this summer.
“The Real Betis board has this evening decided to dismiss Victor Sanchez del Amo as coach of the first team,” read a club statement.
“Real Betis thanks Mr Sanchez del Amo and all his team for their work and wish them the best in their professional futures.
“The board have also decided that the final two games of the current season will be coached by Alexis Trujillo, the club's technical secretary and member of the previous coaching staff. Alexis was a player and captain of Real Betis between 1993 and 2000, as well as assistant coach between 2004 and 2006.”
