Villarreal have confirmed that they plan to begin talks with Fran Escriba over extending the Coach’s contract beyond the summer.
Escriba was brought in as a last-minute replacement for Marcelino, who left Villarreal just days before their Champions League playoff against Monaco back in August, and has since steadied the ship, guiding the Yellow Submarine to fifth in La Liga.
“This week isn’t good due to the festivities on Thursday and Good Friday, but possibly next week we’ll sit down and talk to Escriba and make the decision [on his future],” Vice-President Jose Manuel Llaneza told Television de Castellon Mediterraneo.
Club patron Fernando Roig is also on record as praising the work done by Quique Sanchez Flores’ old No 2 at La Ceramica.
“I like Escriba’s VillarreaI a lot and I loved them against Athletic [Bilbao],” he was quoted as saying by Marca.
“Fran’s doing well, he’s a very sincere and educated guy and he’s getting the best out of our players.”
