Villarreal boss Fran Escriba hailed his side’s late win at Real Sociedad as a ‘massive boost’ as they recovered from Thursday’s damaging defeat to Roma.
The Yellow Submarine’s European hopes are all but over after the 4-0 slump at home to the Italian giants, but Samuel Castillejo’s last-minute winner in San Sebastian closed the gap to the 5th-placed Basques to two points.
"Obviously we were hurt by the game the other day, although in La Liga we knew we were in a good position – and that has been confirmed," Escriba said.
“They attacked us well but did not make any clear chances, which is testament to our defensive shape and discipline, which we lost a little bit on Thursday night so the win is a massive boost.
"With a 4-0 defeat, I won't walk away because we are defending the badge – that game is gone but we will go again and make things the best they can possibly be."
