Quique Sanchez Flores is hoping Felipe Caicedo can “push on” for Espanyol after his proposed transfer to Villarreal in January fell through.
Caicedo ended up staying at Espanyol, with Sergio Garcia failing to secure a return to Cornella-El Prat, and Sanchez Flores is keen for the Ecuadorian to make up for lost time as injuries and a loss of form have seen the player score just one goal so far this season.
“Caicedo will try to push on in this second round of the season and we hope to take advantage,” the Coach said at a Press conference for Saturday’s match against Malaga in La Liga.
“Although he ultimately stayed, he’s training at 100 percent and we’re happy for the recovery of one of the players that we’ve had. Now he has to accumulate [goals].
“Sergio Garcia? We did everything we could, but we got no help from the other party so we’ll wait for our moment [to try again].
“Malaga? They’re explosive, with very intense wide men and with good finishers up top, so we’ll look to restrict our opponents and impose our game plan.
“We won’t find any surprises, but they’re a team that are in need and play for their fans.
“They’ll demand [a lot of us], so it’ll be an awkward match.”
