Villarreal will unveil the new name of their stadium before hosting Barcelona in their first game of 2017, the club have revealed.
The stadium currently known as El Madrigal will have its title updated to reflect the impact of ceramic and porcelain industry – the biggest trade in the small city based in the Castellon region – on the area.
"The new name will relate to ceramics to highlight this product that is so linked to Villarreal,” Villarreal president Fernando Roig revealed to El Mundo, two months after he had hinted the stadium could be called "El Estadio de la Ceramica" (Ceramics stadium).
The 25,000-seater stadium was initially built in 1923 under the name "Campo del Villarreal” before being renamed El Madrigal two years later.
The club are in the process of modernising the stadium and recently completed the first phase of remodelling the south stand and the facade, which has been covered in yellow ceramic tiles.
