La Liga has reported Barcelona to the Competition Committee and Anti-Violence Commission for offensive chants by a group of their fans against Espanyol.
A statement on La Liga’s official website confirmed it had condemned Barca for 10 specific chants made by a section of their supporters in the Catalan derby on Sunday that could have “incited violence” and contained “insulting or intolerant content”.
Almost all of the cases included explicit language or vitriol, while one suggested Espanyol would be the first Chinese-owned business “without a happy ending”.
Los Periquitos were reported for similar behaviour from their fans in the corresponding Copa del Rey match at Cornella-El Prat last season, along with Gerard Pique after he made negative comments about La Blaugrana’s arch-rivals, but neither case was pursued.
