Las Palmas have dropped Sergio Araujo from their matchday squad for Saturday’s trip to Osasuna in La Liga, amidst allegations of drink-driving.
He subsequently appeared in court on Wednesday, where the prosecutor demanded an 11-month prison sentence for the Argentine.
Speaking at a Press conference on Friday, Coach Quique Setien insisted the striker “trained well” enough to be selected in his 19-man travelling party, albeit lacking in “mental freshness”, but he has since been cut from the matchday 18.
Araujo’s lawyer Lino Chaparro, meanwhile, opposed “strongly” to the accusation and will plead his client’s innocence when the trial concludes on October 26.
