Mauricio Pellegrino praised the spirit of his Alaves players after a goalless draw with Sporting Gijon.
The newly-promoted Basque side have now drawn both of their matches since their return to Spain’s top flight, and the Coach is pleased with the teamwork and defensive solidity shown by his team so far this season.
“We had clear chances in the first half, but in the second we didn’t have the same rhythm and Sporting were more comfortable as the match went on,” Pellegrino said of Sunday’s match at Mendizorrotza.
“I liked the spirit of the team and how they approached the game in the face of certain difficulties, and also the defensive solidity which is one of the important facets of the team.”
Pellegrino also praised Alaves’ fans for the atmosphere they created in what was the club’s first home fixture in the Primera Division for more than a decade.
“There was a marvellous atmosphere, it was incredible and spectacular. I hope that between all of us we can be a strong team at home.”
