The board of the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF] is meeting today and President Angel Maria Villar could propose a name to succeed Vicente del Bosque.
Del Bosque stepped down after Euro 2016 and Mundo Deportivo reports the RFEF meeting at Las Rozas to discuss budgets, changes in regulations and the calendar, but Villar is expected to make known his preferred candidate to take the national team bench.
Joaquin Caparros is the favourite but Julen Lopetegui has also gathered strength for the post, the report adds, while Jose Antonio Camacho, Michel and Paco Jemez are thought to be on the shortlist as well.
In theory, Villar can name the new Coach himself, without needing the approval of the RFEF Board of Directors or the Assembly that has been called, but Mundo Deportivo reports conflicting stories from sources close to the RFEF as to whether or not Villar will name the new Coach on Thursday.
