Guidetti no regrets at Celta switch

Striker John Guidetti maintains he has no regrets at having joined the Celta Vigo from Celtic last summer.

The Swede signed a five-year deal with the Galicians after turning down the chance to make his loan move from Manchester City a permanent one at Parkhead, a decision the 24-year-old stands by after notching 12 goals in all competitions in Celta’s march to a Europa League spot.

“When I finished at Celtic I had the chance to go to Spain with Celta Vigo and I’ve got to say it’s been a fantastic year,” Guidetti told the Daily Record.

“I think I made the right decision about the move as I’ve scored a lot of goals for the club. I’ve scored against some big La Liga clubs and I’m really enjoying life right now. Celta is a terrific club to play for.

“We did amazingly well this year. We’ve qualified directly for the Europa League and beat some top sides.

“It’s an exciting time. We beat Barcelona at home, Villarreal and Sevilla away, and Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey.

“We’ve had a great season and it’s been a brilliant year for me. I’m playing in the best league in the world and it’s great to test yourself against the top footballers.”

However, Guidetti, currently at Euro 2016 with his country, did not rule out a return to Scotland later in his career.

“You never know. Maybe I’ll go back to Celtic one day. I was very happy in Glasgow. The supporters there were always amazing towards me. I saw a lot of them when we played the Republic of Ireland last week.

“I know a lot of Celtic fans are Irish supporters and my girlfriend told me after the game that they were so friendly to her.”
