Quique Setien paid tribute to Juan Carlos Valeron after the veteran played his last home game for Las Palmas.
Valeron has announced he will end his long career this summer and the 0-0 draw with Athletic Bilbao was the final time he will turn out at Estadio Gran Canaria, having wanted to end his career with his local club.
“He’s a great player and a great person. This was an historic moment and very emotional for everyone. ‘El Flaco’ is a great example for everyone,” Setien said, Las Palmas’ official site reports, after Valeron was honoured during the game.
“It wasn’t a comfortable match but we knew that. They’re a very strong team. I guess the draw is fair.
“This club is extraordinary. Not in my dreams would I have imagined such a good end to the season. We capped it at home by giving a lot of joy to the fans and it will remain in everyone’s memory.”
