Diego Simeone indirectly criticised La Liga’s scheduling after Atletico Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Sporting Gijon as “I’m happy people in China could watch us”.
A late Sporting comeback cancelled out Antoine Griezmann’s first-half strike to leave Atleti potentially 11 points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race, and the Coach could not resist taking a dig at the LFP for its decision to give his side an early-afternoon kick-off on Saturday.
“We played at primetime, and I’m happy people in China could watch us,” he said after the game.
“I congratulate Sporting Gijon for the game they played. They were very good and fair winners.
“The players gave another tremendous effort. I’m proud of my team.”
