Former Spain international and current Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka is touted as a candidate for Valencia next season.
Gary Neville currently sits on the Mestalla bench but his contract expires in the summer, and it’s not yet known if the Englishman will be renewed.
Sport reports Karanka, who before moving to Teeside assisted Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, has caught the eye of Los Che as he tries to return ‘Boro to the Premier League.
Karanka has however suggested he will stay at his current club for the duration, signing a contract until 2019, but it’s noted he could be swayed by an opportunity as large as Valencia.
The feeling appears to be that Neville won’t remain in his post after the end of the season as he doesn’t fully have the support of the fans or the players.
Potentially rivalling Karanka to succeed Neville are Jorge Sampaoli, the former Chile trainer, and Manuel Pellegrini, as he is leaving Manchester City to make way for Pep Guardiola.
Reports from north-east England say, however, that Karanka has distanced himself from Valencia as he feels he’s got work to do at his current club.
