Sevilla boss Unai Emery would prefer the Copa del Rey final to be played in China over Camp Nou as “it’d be like giving Barcelona a second Messi”.
Los Nervionenses were confirmed as the Catalans’ opponents for May’s showpiece as goals from Ever Banega and Yevhen Konoplyanka cancelled out Iago Aspas’ earlier brace, while they survived John Guidetti’s missed penalty and Steven N’Zonzi’s late red card.
However, in light of Real Madrid’s reported reluctance to host the final, the Coach said after the game: “I hope the final won’t be played at Camp Nou like last season.
“I’d rather play earlier in China than there. I hope we don’t have the injustice of playing there because it would give more advantage to Barcelona. It’d be like giving them a second Messi.
“I want to play where the Sevilla fans feel most comfortable, but not at Camp Nou.
“I’m very proud of my team, and more so of how the game progressed.
“We competed without the ball, then with the ball. It’s also important that we left the tie undefeated.”
