Diego Simeone has claimed that Atletico Madrid did “everything” but score during Sunday’s goalless draw with Sevilla in La Liga.
Los Colchoneros fell behind Barcelona at the top of the table following their failure to break down the Andalucians, and the Coach felt his side were unlucky not to have rounded off their “complete” performance.
“The match was quite clear to us,” he said after the game.
“We had chances in both the first and second half.
“[Antoine] Griezmann and [Yannick] Carrasco had very good chances, but the team’s work was very good.
“We did everything possible [to win], but the goal didn’t follow.
“[On Sevilla’s perceived timewasting], these things happen in football and it’s the referee who decides what is right and what is wrong.
“[Sevilla] are a direct rival of ours in the fight for third place in the League.
“You need to create chances in order to score, and we created them.
“We’ll continue to insist on this path because it’s the right one.
“[On Augusto Fernandez starting the game], we wanted good ball movement and it was achieved in the first half.
“In the second, we played with more speed once Carrasco came on.
“Sevilla played in the same way as Levante and Sporting Gijon did, in terms of defensive work, but we were unlucky not to score.
“We had a complete game but lacked the goal.”
