A date has been set for the tax fraud trial of Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his father Jorge.
The pair are alleged to have avoided around €4m in tax on the player’s image rights between 2007 and 2009.
AS reports that the trial will begin on May 31 and is expected to run until June 3, according to the Catalan Superior Court of Justice.
The report adds that state prosecutors are asking that should the pair be found guilty they receive jail terms of 22 months.
The date comes shortly after the Champions League final, to be held in Milan, and shortly before Argentina begin their involvement in the centenary Copa America, in the United States.
