Eduardo Berizzo spoke of his relief after Celta Vigo survived a “surprise” to defeat Cadiz 3-0 in their Copa del Rey last-16 first leg on Thursday.
The Galicians overcame early pressure from their Segunda hosts, in the knockout stages courtesy of Real Madrid's expulsion for fielding an ineligible player, to ran out convincing winners, with goals from Jonny Castro and John Guidetti, the latter helping himself to a brace.
“We didn't create many chances but still took advantage [of the tie],” the Coach said after the game.
“Cadiz played well, but my players realised the importance of the game.
“The start of the game was in Cadiz's favour , but we were lucky that we didn't concede [in that time] and went on to score three goals.
“We played well and leave [Cadiz] with the feeling of a good win.
“We didn't want any surprises. We came to a difficult venue and it was like that for the first 20 minutes.
“We play every team in the same way. This wasn't an opportunity for some players to earn minutes, but rather for us to take a step forward.”
