Pepe Mel has warned his Real Betis players that if they repeat their Eibar performance, Copa del Rey opponents Sevilla could run riot.
Betis lost 4-0 at home to Eibar at the weekend and Mel told a Press conference that after such a disappointing result, the best thing to do is play again soon, even if it is a Cup derby.
“For the players and the coaches, after these bad days, it’s best to have a match and it’s a way to compensate our fans and ourselves,” he said, Marca reports.
“I fully trust my players, their ability and I like seeing them in a position to improve. That means you have recognised something is wrong.
“The Copa is a different competition, a different game in this city, but our ranking in the League remains the same. We’re five points from relegation, far below our target, and we can’t rest but the situation isn’t dramatic. The match is 180 minutes and everything is different.
“I don’t have any expectations regarding Sevilla, just my team. If we do things properly it’ll be difficult to win. If we do things as we did against Eibar, Sevilla will get more than four…”
