Fran Escriba declared himself ‘proud’ of how his Getafe players recovered from going a goal down at Sporting Gijon and missing a penalty.
Paolo Sarabia scored the winning goal in the 2-1 victory after Antonio Sanrabia had given Sporting a first half lead, his goal cancelled out by Juan Cala a minute before Sarabia’s decider, Pedro Leon having hit the post with a penalty.
“I am proud of the reaction of my players. It was about time we won [away from home], especially against a direct rival,” Escriba said, Marca reports.
“Hopefully Sporting can stay up despite having a very young and inexperienced team.”
