Last season’s playoff finalists Real Zaragoza and freshly-relegated Almeria have respectively sacked Ranko Popovic and Joan Carrillo.
Carrillo, who guided Videoton to the Hungarian title last season, departs Almeria after just nine games, with the side rooted to the bottom of La Segunda and Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Oviedo their seventh defeat in that time.
“Almeria expect this measure to turn around the team’s situation of 15 consecutive games without a win and being bottom of the table, five points adrift of safety,” a statement on Los Rojiblancos’ website reads.
Zaragoza, meanwhile, have dismissed Popovic after Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Nastic saw them drop out of the playoff spots.
The Serbian is joined on the way out by sporting director Angel Martin Gonzalez, with former Barcelona technical secretary Narcis Julia already named as the latter’s replacement.
“Real Zaragoza’s Board of Directors have reached an agreement to terminate the contract of Coach Ranko Popovic,” Zaragoza announced via their official website.
“The club wish to express their appreciation for both [Popovic’s] work and professional and human conduct.”
