Marcelino says Villarreal can “routinely count on” Mateo Musacchio again ahead of Sunday’s match against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga.
The Yellow Submarine have lost their last two matches, including a 3-2 defeat to Huesca in the cup on Thursday, but one of their bright sparks against the Segunda side was the return of the defender, who completed the entirety of the trip after eight months on the sidelines with a serious ankle injury.
“We’ve always had, since I’ve been here, the same needs, which are none other than wins,” the Coach said at a Press conference.
“When there is a positive dynamic, confidence is higher, but these are circumstances which occur during the season.
“When we won five straight games, we approached each of them with the same need.
“Our position doesn’t change anything. We always have the need to win.
“[On Villarreal’s recent slump], our worst spell of matches were in La Segunda. That’s what I think.
“It’s true we want to beat Rayo and that we want to return to winning ways after two defeats, but our situation is what it is.
“As we showed against Rapid Vienna, having that continuity in your game helps you win games.
“[Mateo Musacchio against Huesca] was better than expected after going so long without playing.
“We were really satisfied with the feelings he transmitted during the game. He showed a good level of recovery.
“Everything suggests that he’s a player who we’ll be able to routinely count on.
“[Rayo] be a difficult game because we’re not at our best. We need and want to win, but it will be hotly contested.”
