Valencia President Chan Lay Hoon has explained the reasoning behind the appointment of England assistant Gary Neville as the club’s new Coach.
Neville was on Wednesday appointed to the Mestalla bench for the rest of the season, joining brother Phil Neville, who has been on Nuno Santo’s staff, the Portuguese quitting on Sunday.
“We are delighted to have been able to get Gary so quickly. He is someone who combines technical expertise as part of the England team with a brilliant playing career at Manchester United,” she told the club’s official website.
“Throughout his career Gary has always shown a high level of leadership on and off the field. He is greatly respected in English football and these are the qualities that have convinced us that he is the right choice to lead the team until the end of the season.”
Nevillle’s will officially take over on Sunday, after Valencia have played Barcelona, with his first game in charge against Lyon in the Champions League a few days later.
