Barcelona’s interest in unsettled Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie is serious, according to two of Netherlands’ most respected journalists.
La Blaugrana are understood to have prioritised the signing of an experienced forward in January, akin to Henrik Larsson during the 2005-06 campaign, and their search has seemingly taken them to the 32-year-old.
As explained by the newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, there have been “several conversations between Barcelona and the player’s representatives”.
Sjoerd Mossou, a journalist for the publication, told TV programme Studio Sport: “It would be a signing of prestige, but the only way [Barca can sign him] is if the players forces through his departure.
“That implies a risk, but it’s not because the offer from Barcelona will be firm [in January].
AD’s Spanish correspondent Edwin Winkels also corroborated the claim but revealed Barca were also monitoring young Ajax winger Anwar El Ghazi.
“The thing seems to be serious. There’s been contact [between both parties], but there are also other players in [Barca’s] sights, such as El Ghazi,” he concluded.
