Casilla: Navas and I a good team

Kiko Casilla believes he and Keylor Navas form a good team as Real Madrid’s goalkeepers and spoke of what it meant to return to Santiago Bernabeu.

Casilla headed back to Madrid from Espanyol over the summer, having been let go by Los Blancos after coming through the ranks of the youth set-up, although the capital club did retain a part of his registration.

“After getting to Madrid at 14, leaving and coming back, having the experience of playing [at the Bernabeu] is a dream come true,” he admitted, Marca reports.

“I always hoped I’d get to do that and I was lucky enough to do it. It’s been easy to adapt. It’s easier when you grow up here.

“My teammates and the club in general have treated me very well, as if I had never left. I’ve been welcomed in the best way. The people are humble and very close.”

Casilla elaborated on his relationship with one teammate in particular, Navas, his rival for the goalkeeper’s position.

“We’re a very good team. Keylor and I have known each other for years, through the Segunda, and that helps,” he revealed.

“We have a good feeling and we help each other. That’s good for us and for the team.”

Casilla arrived at a Madrid with a new Coach, and considered how Rafa Benitez’s first few months on the bench have gone.

“It’s always difficult at the start with a new Coach and new people but I think we started in a very good way,” he continued.

“We’ve not lost and that’s important. Hopefully that streak continues. The goals of Real Madrid, the biggest club in the world, are always to try and win everything.

“We’ll fight for that and we’re on the right track. We hope to continue on this winning path. Madrid are always obliged to win.”
