Abelardo Fernandez has confirmed that Sporting Gijon have resumed talks with Barcelona for Alen Halilovic.
The Coach, who spent eight years at Camp Nou between 1994 and 2002, says he is hoping to take advantage of Hamburg’s decision to opt out of the race after they could not offer the Croatian starlet a guaranteed run in their team.
“I’ve spoken with Halilovic to tell him what I expect from him. Now, it’s up to him,” he told Marca.
“He’s a player who will add something that we don’t already have in the squad.
“If he comes then I’ll be delighted, but if he doesn’t then I’ll wish him the best of luck wherever he goes.’
However, despite his understanding that Barca want Halilovic to gain sufficient first-team experience while out on loan, the former Spain defender warned: “My players have to earn their minutes.”
