Paco Jemez has attempted to put the row over the signing of Zhang Chengdong behind Rayo Vallecano. ‘Whatever the circumstances he’s another player.’
Jemez complained that the China striker had been imposed on his team by a sponsor, suggesting he wasn’t consulted about the signing.
But Rayo sporting director Felipe Minambres contradicted the Coach, explaining that Rayo had tried the past two years to make such a signing, and Jemez was well aware of that.
“Zhang plays a little in a position we have a lot of players, but beyond the circumstances he’s one more player and he wants to win in every training session. He’s a great guy,” Jemez said, AS reports.
“I never denied I knew he was coming. That’s clear. I know just about everything in the world, that’s not the problem. I’ve said what I had to say. Felipe and I have a lot of work to do and we should stop talking and work.
“We’ll sign more players. The squad isn’t closed. There’ll also be players who leave, although we only have a few weeks until we start.”
Rayo have indeed added to their squad, confirming on Thursday the signing of goalkeeper Juan Carlos, while Johan Mojica has been loaned to Real Valladolid.
