Former Barcelona midfielder Gerard Lopez has returned to the club to take charge of the Catalans’ B team.
Gerard, who had been working as a television pundit and Coach of the Catalan representative team since retirement, has agreed a two-year contract.
“It’s an honour to come back to Barca. My family has been linked to Barca, I spent many years at the club and coming back is the best thing that could happen,” he said.
“There are two major challenges as Coach of Barca B: Getting back to the Segunda and help players reach the first team.
“My experience in the cantera and Barca B will be useful, because I can put myself in the shoes of the players.”
Gerard will work under Pep Segura, who was appointed as director of the Barca youth set-up after Josep Maria Bartomeu’s election as President.
