The father of Gerson has claimed that the Fluminense midfielder will join Barcelona in January. “It’s his dream”.
The Catalans have secured a €3.6m first option on the 18-year-old, and Marcao believes Camp Nou is the best place for his son to realise his potential.
“Gerson will leave Fluminense in January and play for Barca,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“We appreciate the interest from other teams because it’s a sign that my son is doing well, but our decision is final; Gerson wants to play for Barcelona, it’s his dream.”
“Gerson is ready to make the leap to [Barca’s] first team without haste. Although he still has to improve in many aspects and prove his qualities on the pitch, there is no better place in Europe for him to grow and stand out.
“In two years’ time, he will be one of the best players in the world.
“Everyone talks about him having the same traits as [Paul] Pogba. He may not be as powerful as the Frenchman but has good positioning and the technique of [Andres] Iniesta, who is his idol, and knows [Barca’s] style of play well.”
