The Rodrigo Caio saga has taken another twist, with Sao Paulo announcing that the midfielder has rejected a move to Atletico Madrid.
The 21-year-old appeared set to join Los Colchoneros after his agent confirmed that a medical had been successfully undertaken on Tuesday, but he has now taken issue with the club’s preference to sign him on an initial loan.
A statement on Sao Paulo’s official website reads: “In a meeting between the player Rodrigo Caio, club president Carlos Miguel Aidar and Vice-President Ataide Gil Guerreiro on Friday afternoon, Rodrigo Caio expressed his desire not to be transferred on loan to a European club. The club [Sao Paulo] are in agreement with the decision of the player.”
Valencia announced earlier in June that they had signed Caio, only for them to pull out at the last minute due to two failed medicals.
