Barcelona have retained their first option on Gerson after Fluminense rejected Juventus’ €16m bid for the midfielder, according to the Spanish Press.
The Bianconeri have long been admirers of the 18-year-old, but it is understood that Barca director Raul Sanllehi and South American representative Andre Cury travelled to Brazil to discuss the rival offer.
Consequently, the entourage have been successful in convincing the Brazilian club to keep the starlet for one more year and return to the negotiating table once La Blaugrana’s transfer embargo ends.
However, it remains to be seen whether Barca will exercise their first option on Gerson as he considered an insurance policy if Paul Pogba cannot be landed.
Gerson was quoted as saying on Saturday that a move to either Camp Nou or Juve would be “a dream”.
