Las Palmas’ former Spain international Juan Carlos Valeron has reflected on returning to La Liga – at 40.
The ex-Deportivo La Coruna midfielder started his career with Los Amarillos but returned two years ago and started Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Real Zaragoza, which was enough to overturn a 3-1 deficit and see his side join Real Betis and Sporting Gijon in gaining promotion.
“Our greatest joy is that we’re able to make so many people happy, that was our objective,” he said after the match.
“It’s why I came here. It was a match with a lot of tension and little football, but it had to be done.
“In the end, we were able to [complete] the turnaround and we’re all very happy. The joy we have is from making the fans and people [connected to the club] happy.
“I’m grateful to God for what he gave us today. We’ll see [what happens] next season.
“It was a tough game, we had to play too directly sometimes because the minutes were ticking, but we eventually scored those two goals.”
