Monchi has rubbished speculation linking Carlos Bacca with Roma and Adriano with a return to Sevilla.
Gazzetta dello Sport claimed earlier in the week that the Giallorossi were closing in on the Colombian striker, while reports in Spain were of the opinion that the Barcelona left-back was being courted by his former employers.
“[Bacca’s] contract includes obligations for the club and the player, but if a club wants to pay his clause, there’s nothing we can do about that,” the sporting director said at Gael Kakuta’s unveiling on Friday.
“I really think he’ll stay here because the player and Sevilla want it so. We have no intention of selling him.
“If another club want Bacca, they’d have to pay the clause. He’s conveyed to us his desire to stay at Sevilla, so I see no other possibility for him.
“When we read [we wanted Adriano], we were surprised. Adriano is in a different orbit.”
Monchi then denied suggestions Sevilla were interested in Fernando Llorente and Martin Montoya but was more forthcoming about Denis Suarez and Adil Rami.
“[Fernando] Llorente is not an objective of ours. On the other hand, we’re not aware of any interest from Barca to negotiate Denis [Suarez’s] return. I have nothing more to say on that issue,” he added.
“Finally, Montoya is not an objective right now. We like him, but he’s not an objective because we only try to look at realistic targets, whom we can aspire to sportingly and economically.
“Ideally, we want to complete the squad as soon as possible, but that shouldn’t make us rush. We intend to finish our business before July 6, when we restart training, but we shouldn’t rush.
“We’ll always evaluate the possibilities of something if it’s interesting, but we haven’t heard from Porto [about Diego Figueiras].
“[Unai] Emery asks me so many things but not names, we just plan for positions.
“I dont have to describe [Adil Rami]. I think he’s an excellent central defender, but we need to assess his situation.
“I like him, but I don’t know if we can get him. It won’t be easy to bring him in.
“We’re happy with Beto, Sergio Rico and David Soria, so we’re fully covered in goal.”
