‘Perez wanted rid of Ancelotti’

Luciano Moggi has claimed Florentino Perez told him he wanted Carlo Ancelotti out of Real Madrid even if the Champions League was retained.

AS reports Moggi telling Italian radio that Ancelotti’s days were numbered no matter what and Rafa Benitez was always bound for the Santiago Bernabeu bench.

Ancelotti was duly sacked shortly after the season finished and Benitez hired in his place after leaving Napoli.

“Florentino said he was going to dismiss Ancelotti even if he won the Champions League,” former Juventus official Moggi is quoted as saying.

“Benitez was to be his replacement and Florentino knew it for a long time, unlike what he would have you believe.”

Moggi added that he wasn’t a fan of Benitez, pointing to his relative lack of success in Naples as the reason.

“I’m not convinced about Benitez because he hasn’t been able to get much out of certain players, such as [Marek] Hamsik. And, as well as other things, Napoli finished in fifth.”
