Barcelona vice-President Jordi Mestre has claimed that “there’s no debate” about Luis Enrique staying on as club’s Coach next season.
The former Celta Vigo boss refused to confirm whether he would remain in charge of La Blaugrana in the wake of their Champions League triumph over Juventus on Saturday, but the official believes there is no reason for the two parties to go their separate ways.
“[Whether or not he is staying] should be a question for Luis Enrique,” he said at Aleix Vidal’s presentation on Monday.
“There’s one year left on his contract and for us there’s no debate. I don’t understand why there’s a debate. There’s no problem for him to continue here.”
Mestre also warned Dani Alves that time was running out for him to accept Barca’s offer of a contract extension.
“We fully respect Dani Alves’ feelings, but if we didn’t want him to stay then we wouldn’t have made him an offer,” he added.
“We’ve made him an offer that we think is satisfactory. The choice is his and he has to decide quickly.”
