Vinyals reflects on Barca B relegation

Jordi Vinyals has admitted that Barcelona B were found sorely lacking in their failed bid to avoid relegation from La Segunda.

La Blaugrana’s second string dropped into Segunda B on Sunday following their 5-2 home defeat to Leganes, and the Coach pulled no punches in his assessment of the young guns.

“We’re a very confused, young team, who lack experience and strength in defence,” he said after the game at Mini Estadi.

“[Barca B’s relegation] is the responsibility of everyone at the club – the coaches, players and those who helped to prepare the team.

“We weren’t able to pull off [the great escape] but could’ve given a little more.”

Barca B had not finished outside La Segunda’s top 10 since their promotion in 2011 but lost numerous personnel, including Jordi Masip, Munir El Haddadi and Sandro Ramirez, to the seniors in the first half of 2014-15.

The latter pair returned to the B team in the New Year but were ultimately unable to inspire a significant improvement in fortunes as the side came up short in their must-win match against Leganes.

The Catalans will now join Real Madrid Castilla in the third tier following Los Blancos’ relegation a year earlier and subsequent failure to bounce back.
