Dnipro Coach Myron Markevych commended Sevilla on their performance in the Europa League final as Los Rojiblancos claimed a second straight trophy.
Sevilla won by the odd goal in five in an absorbing encounter in which Dnipro took the lead, but proved unable to hold on.
“We have to fight in a tournament like this. We played very well at a European level but maybe need a bit more, better players,” Markevych said after the final whistle.
“Before the game, Douglas was one of the best defenders in Europe. He was one of the best players in the competition.
“If Carlos Bacca has gotten two goals it wasn’t Douglas’ best day but you have to praise Sevilla and their strikers.
“I don’t want at this time to judge the way [Yevhen Konoplyanka] played. I have to watch the game, watch the video. They have a better perspective.
“If he’d played better the result would have been better but we can’t ignore the great defence Sevilla have.”
Markevych also spoke about Matheus, the forward who was stretchered off late in the game after collapsing, with reports suggesting he suffered a broken nose.
“He worked a lot on the pitch, so maybe he was exhausted when he fell, but I think he is in a stable condition,” he noted.
