Insua: ‘I want to play for Atleti’

Rayo Vallecano left-back Emiliano Insua says he would love to play for Atletico Madrid next season.

The Argentine defender [pictured, right] joined Rayo last summer on a season-long loan from Atletico and did not disguise his future intentions.

“I’d love to go back to Atletico because I had some good times there, but first I have to finish the games I have left here in the best way possible,” the 26-year-old told a Press conference.

“Right now I’m with Rayo and that’s what I wanted to do, so I’m grateful for everything they’ve given me and I want to leave a piece of me here.

“When I’ve got to return to Atletico I’ll see what happens, but I’d love to go there.”

With top-flight safety achieved, Rayo’s aim now is to take three points from the last three games and hopefully sneak into seventh spot and claim a Europa League place for next season, but Insua knows it will be a tough ask.

“It’s going to be very difficult. We have to win all our games and rely on other results, although we must continue what we’ve been doing and finish the season in the best way possible.

“The team deserves it and we’ll be trying to give a good account of ourselves.”

Insua maintains that on the whole he has been pleased with how the 2014-15 campaign has panned out.

“The aim was to play and get minutes under my belt. I came here with a lot of desire. The boss has a big squad and he’s tried to give almost everybody some playing time.

“At the time I was left out of the team we started to win games but I’m still happy because I’ve featured 22 times, which is in the majority of matches.

“On a personal level I want to play in these last few games and try to help Rayo finish as far up the table as possible,” he concluded.
