Both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be banned from any transfer activity for the next two windows, according to Spanish radio stations.
Cadena SER and Cadena COPE maintain the sanction will be similar to the one received by Barcelona, that has left the Catalans unable to sign players until January 2016, and relates to irregularities in the signing of young players.
Reports suggest the Spanish Football Federation has already received a communication setting out the punishment for both teams and the next step will be to inform the clubs.
According to FIFA, both have infringed the rules over the signing of underage footballers, while in Real Madrid’s case it also involves the incorporation of the sons of Madrid legend and current reserve team Coach Zinedine Zidane.
What is still unknown is the exact number of windows the ban might cover, although if it is commensurate with the one handed down to Barca then both clubs would be unable to sign new players until at least June 2016.
Sport newspaper explained in January that both teams’ transfer dealings were being examined and at Madrid alone around 70 players were under scrutiny, although there is no suggestion that all of them were transferred illegally.
The opening of the investigation is believed to have forced Los Blancos to stock up on players after being made aware they could be banned from future transfers, with Martin Odegaard, Marco Asensio, Danilo and Lucas Silva all having been brought in ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, other clubs such as Getafe and Villarreal are also allegedly being investigated.
