Kiko Casilla has told of his motivation ahead of this Saturday’s derby with Barcelona at the Power8 Stadium.
The Espanyol goalkeeper insists his team will be going all out for the win against their cross-city rivals and feels Los Pericos have nothing to fear from Luis Enrique’s men.
“This is a game that’s different to the rest because it’s a derby and when you play against [Lionel] Messi, [Luis] Suarez or Neymar it motivates you even more,” the 28-year-old told a Press conference.
“We always go out to win, especially at home, so it would be wrong to play for a draw. I’m sure that the fans will come to the stadium and want us to do something important.
“We don’t fear their strikers. We respect them as well as anyone else who can be dangerous, yet we are playing well at the moment and know everything we need to know about our opponents.”
Casilla believes if Espanyol can pull off what would be an unlikely triumph it would prove historic for the club.
“It would be a first victory over Barca at the new stadium and it would be brilliant to win in front of our own fans. Winning would be historic and the icing on the cake this season.
“Any chance we have will rely on a strong defence and how solid we are. That is going to be crucial.
“Espanyol is a special team with a special set of fans. We know we’re in a city that looks less blue and white but the people here are very proud of their team,” he explained.
