Del Bosque bemoans lack of Spaniards

Spain national team boss Vicente del Bosque says there are not enough Spaniards at La Liga’s biggest clubs.

The 64-year-old, speaking at a hospital in Valencia, insisted it was not a huge problem but felt it was an issue that was worth pointing out.

“At the biggest clubs there are not a lot of Spanish players and sometimes it’s difficult to find someone at a big club,” he told gathered reporters.

“However, it’s not necessarily a bad thing as we still have three teams in the Champions League and one in the Europa League.

“Even so, it’s a small problem that there aren’t a lot of Spanish players.”

Del Bosque was also asked about Valencia left-back Jose Luis Gaya, who has received rave reviews this season and has been consistently linked with a summer switch to Real Madrid.

“He is a player who is showing great quality, one for the present, and that’s why he is playing for Valencia.

“Of course, we have him in mind but at the moment he is with the Under-21s, so we’ll see in the coming months what forward steps he can take,” he replied.
