‘Oliver & Alderweireld will return’

Oliver Torres and Toby Alderweireld will both return to Atletico Madrid next season, according to the club’s sporting director Jose Luis Caminero.

The pair are currently enjoying productive loan spells at Porto and Southampton respectively, but the former Spain midfielder insists they will not be shipped out again.

“Our scouts monitor all our loanees in detail. We’re very pleased with their overall performances and improvement,” he told Atleti’s official website.

“Oliver [Torres] and [Toby] Alderweireld, for example, are having very good campaigns with Porto and Southampton and we’ll have them back for next season.

“Borja [Gonzalez] is also having a great year at Zaragoza, Leo Baptistao and [Emiliano] Insua are getting the minutes they need at Rayo, as is Thomas [Partey] at Almeria.

“The same is happening with [Emiliano] Velazquez, who has become a first-choice centre-back in only his first year in Europe, at Getafe.

“[Yassine] Bounou, Cristian Rodriguez and Ruben Perez have had some problems, but they’ve also enjoyed minutes.

“In any event, all our loanees will return on June 30 and we’ll then decide what’s best for everyone.”

On Diego Simeone’s decision to renew until 2010, Caminero added; “Both the club and Diego were on the same page [during contract negotiations], and it made things much easier to agree on.

“We’re delighted with the work he’s done with the team since he arrived in December 2011.

“He’s known to make his players believe that the group can achieve all kinds of objectives, and he’s achieved that [at Atleti].

“He also greatly appreciates the efforts the club are making to keep growing, so the synergy between us is perfect.

“It was only a matter of time before [Simeone] signed the deal we presented [to the media] last week.

“Simeone knows our club perfectly. He sees it as his own, so it’s logical that he wants to help us grow.

“But he’s also a winner and therefore he appreciates the continued growth which our club have been experiencing in recent seasons and led him to commit until 2020.”
