Amadeo Salvo has refused to confirm whether Jose Luis Gaya wants to renew his contract with Valencia, amid talk of a summer move to Real Madrid.
Reports on Tuesday claimed the left-back had turned down Los Che’s offer of a renewal, and the CEO gave a cryptic response to the speculation, stating that only the players who wanted to stay at the club would have their deals extended.
“We’ve always said that between January and March we’d contact the players who wanted to renew [their contracts],” he was quoted as saying by AS.
“We’ve talked to their agents and are in the process [of negotiating]. Each [renewal] has its own timeframe and we’re collaborating with those who wish to stay.
“Our perception [of these negotiations] is positive. As the weeks go forward, there’ll be more news.”
It is believed that Salvo was only referring to Dani Parejo, Sofiane Feghouli and Pablo Piatti.
Gaya, who turns 20 in May, is tied to Valencia until 2018 but has a release clause worth only €18m.
