Atletico Madrid midfielder Cani is the latest player to respond to accusations that Diego Simeone’s team is more than physical in its approach.
The 33-year-old, on loan at the Vicente Calderon from Villarreal, believes the charges of over-aggressiveness should not be mistaken for strength.
“I’ve noticed that there are some very strong players in this team,” Cani told reporters.
“Until you are actually with them every day, not just seeing them on television, you feel a part of it.
“What I would say is that we are strong, not aggressive, and I don’t see any players here that can cause others damage.
“I’ve seen a lot of sides that are much worse than this. Atletico are just competitive,” he claimed.
